About Us

We are both originally from New Jersey. That fact alone has been a source of entertainment for those that know us now…

Doug and I met each other at the Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1987. (Well, he followed me home one day, really, but that’s another story) I was a graphic design major, and he was an Illustrator. Turned out we had a lot in common, including a way of looking at life that was a little different than others. Hard to explain exactly, but let’s just say we “got” each other.

The best way to sum it up is…we are basically the kind of people who tend to ask “Why not?” in life. Family and friends have often thought we were crazy over the years, but our attitude has certainly lead to some great adventures. Like buying an almost 100 yr. old farmhouse as our first home. It had been neglected, to say the least. And I guess I can’t really blame everyone for thinking we were nuts on that one. But…we looked at it as one big ‘art project’, and being young and energetic, proceeded to renovate nonstop for the next five years! We named our home “Fieldstone Farm” because of the beautiful stones used in the old fireplace. During that time, we started a business doing creative signs and vehicle lettering, and researched our next adventure…

We moved to Tucson, Arizona in 1998. Just the two of us, and our beloved Labrador pup, Dakota. She was always up for some fun herself. We knew just one person in town, but that didn’t stop us. We loved the desert, wide-open with opportunity. We re-started our sign business, with a new Southwestern look.

The next 12 years were filled with one adventure after another, including finding Jesus (believe me, that’s quite an adventure!), exploring crazy, interesting places all over AZ, living in a 70’s-era 5th-wheel trailer in the middle of the desert while we built our first home. Wasn’t too bad, ‘cuz we had our hot tub right out there under the stars next to it. (Doug designed and built it–another “art project”) and the wildest one of all, becoming parents!

Since our very beginning together, the “farm” idea was never too far from us. Our first anniversary was spent in Bucks County, PA at a bed & breakfast that was, you guessed it, a farm. Doug always knew to pull over if we were driving and saw anything that might provide an opportunity for me to pet animals. And then good friends of ours bought a ranch in southern AZ. They invited us down and soon, we were ‘down at the ranch’ as often as we could get there. Whenever we were there, we felt as comfortable in that setting as a hand in a well-worn leather glove…

That “tugging” at us grew stronger and stronger until we could ignore it no longer. It was time for another adventure! And that’s how we got to Prescott. And our farm that warms our hearts every single day. From the East Coast, to Tucson, and finally to here, we’ve slowed it down, and simplified our lives so we can focus on the things that really matter. Doug’s an artist, a builder and our main fence-fixer. I’m a designer, teacher and the number-one goat milker. It’s quite liberating when you don’t have a specific “profession”…a little dice-y at times, but liberating nonetheless. We make our living doing the things we are gifted to do and love creating memories each and every day. It hasn’t been easy, there’s been lots to learn and we’ve needed to have a lot of faith at times. But, we feel absolutely blessed to be able to live this crazy life of ours!
